One of my favorite parts of being a parent is re-living and creating the magic of holidays for my little ones. Easter has always been one of my least favorite holidays personally, but I am finding it more joyful when I think about taking my kids to an Easter egg hunt, coloring eggs with them, and planning what to put (and eventually where to hide) their Easter baskets.
Today I’ll be sharing what I plan to put in their Easter baskets this year!
My Approach To Holiday-Gifts for My Kids
I want to be intentional with our gifts to kids. While of course I want them to feel excitement that can come with things like hidden Easter baskets and Christmas mornings, it’s important to me to instill the true meaning of holidays and that they can embrace gifts with a sense of sincere gratitude. My kiddos are still quite young, so I’m aware that things are just, well, to be blunt - not that serious yet. But I don’t think it’s ‘too early’ to frame gift-giving with intentionality.
Basically, I have a few loose, but key philosophies I keep in mind.
Experiences & Consumables > Items. Experiences create tangible memories to hold onto much longer than any item. Consumables are more enjoyable because you have to savor them and enjoy them while they last.
Some sort of book, always. I hope my girls learn to love reading!
Something they genuinely need. There’s nothing more thoughtful, really.
Aaaand while they’re too little to actually understand the concept of the holiday: reuse things already on hand! Don’t overbuy and add unnecessary clutter!
Yes, my kids won’t remember anything about this Easter. But their childhood is also my motherhood. And I want my motherhood to feel fun! It’s fun getting to pick out things for them and plan out the surprise of it all.
Their Easter Baskets & Liners
I had the same Easter basket my entire life. I loved that! So I wanted to invest in quality baskets I loved, knowing they’d be used for ~18+ years. So I went ahead and invested in Pottery Barn baskets and personalized basket liners. In hindsight, I could have probably bought a cheaper basket and just invested in a PB basket liner…but it was also nice to just make the purchase altogether and call it a done deal. I’m all about convenience these days.

The girls both have the large Seagrass basket and the Peter Rabbit basket liners (one name in purple, one name in pink).
Here is what I’m filling them with this year!
My 20-Month Old Toddler
My bubbly, outgoing, goofy girl! She loves to play outside with the warmer weather approaching. She will go right to our door, point and ask “Ide?" (Her lingo for ‘outside’). With this in mind, I kept her items geared towards that.
Bunny Ears headband (I grabbed some at the check out line at HomeGoods in February…can you believe they had Easter stuff out that early?!)
StrideRite Sandal-Sneakers - I know StrideRite can be stupid-expensive, but I love their shoes for my toddler! They are very durable for hours upon hours of playtime. I wanted some closed-toed sandals that she could easily run around in at daycare and at the playground.
Annie’s Bunny Grahams (A few single serving packs - my husband and I admittedly love eating these too…)
Fruit Pouches (pulled from our big Costco supply in the pantry)
A New Raincoat - our growing girl is outgrowing all her jackets and coats! I wanted her to have one for rainy or chillier days. Still on the prowl, but thinking I’ll buy this one.
A New Swimsuit - picked this one from Old Navy!
My 5-Month Old Baby
My little sweet, sensitive baby who is starting to embrace her curiosity - she’s about to start trying food and explores any and all toys with her mouth!
Bunny ears headband
Baby purees + pouches
Stuffed Bunny (…one that we already have! Because we somehow own like, ten stuffed bunnies?)
Some baby sunscreen
Do you have any favorite Easter memories as a kid? Favorite traditions, a special gift in particular? I’d love to hear about it :)
Thanks for reading & wishing you + yours a Hoppy Easter!
From the Archives :)
My kids always got new Speedo goggles in the basket. They were both on summer swim team (and we live in Texas, so lots of swimming).
Loooove these ideas!! Also our 20 month old has that exact raincoat!!
